A veneer is a small porcelain shell that’s custom-made for tooth concealment. Veneers can cover issues like discoloration and can also be used to change the shape, length, or overall size of the tooth.
Veneers can be an excellent solution if you have issues such as:
During the initial visit, Dr. Zack evaluates your teeth and create a mold of the tooth. Next, he removes a small portion of tooth enamel to create a surface to bond the veneer to. A temporary veneer is placed on your tooth to protect it until your custom veneer is ready.
Dr. Zack removes the temporary veneer before bonding the custom veneer permanently into place. With the custom veneer in place, you can use the tooth just as you used the natural tooth beneath it.
Veneers usually last around 10 years, but this can vary by patient. You can get the maximum wear from them if you brush, floss, and see Dr. Zack for regularly scheduled appointments. When it’s time for veneer replacement, Dr. Zack can remove the old veneer and bond a new one in place.
Veneers and crowns are alike in many ways, but they serve different purposes. Veneers only cover the front of the tooth, so they’re not quite as sturdy as crowns. In general, they’re best for the front teeth while Dr. Zack uses crowns on the molars and other teeth in the middle and back of the mouth.
Veneers are usually considered to be a cosmetic dentistry procedure by insurance companies, and thus they may not be covered. However, veneers do add extra strength and stability to damaged teeth, so they have a functional use. Speak to your insurance company about coverage details to be sure.
